Dental laminate (porcelain laminate, also known as porcelain veneer) are very thin shells that are designed and made with tooth-colored materials exclusively for each person. These thin shells are attached to the front surface of the teeth to change their color, shape, size, or height and to restore their appearance.
Ceramic laminates are made of different thin layers and are integrated with natural tooth enamel. Contrary to popular belief, there is no need to shave teeth to make space for using porcelain laminates, and if the dentist chooses a new generation of laminates, only some limited preparations are needed to place the laminate without damaging the natural teeth.
Because dental laminates are custom-made for each patient, just like their original teeth, it is very difficult to make distinction between laminate and natural teeth.
Laminates due to the new technology used to make their materials, are resistant to stains caused by tea and coffee. Laminates can be used for the darkest teeth that are resistant to other teeth whitening methods; they are the best way to whiten teeth and can last up to 10 years with proper care.
